5th ANNUAL CLARK COUNTY PHEASANT CHAMPIONSHIP

Date: March 29, 2008

Divisions: This year there will be two divisions, one man/one dog, two man/one dog. YOU CAN RUN BOTH DIVISIONS, AND MULTIPLE DOGS, each as a different entry.

Teams: Two man or one man teams can participate. Each team has 25 minutes to complete the field. Two man division will try for 5 birds with 10 shells. One man division will try for 3 birds with 5 shells.

Cost: Two man/$200, One man/$100. Cost will cover birds, breakfast, lunch and banquet.

Registration deadline is Feb 23, 2008. Any available spots after Feb 23 will be $150.

Rules:

  1. Competitors may NOT run in the field.
  2. In order to make multiple passes in same division, competitors must change at least one element (dog/shooter).
  3. No competitor may leave the designated field until their hunt is over, except to retrieve a dog with the judges permission.
  4. If a hunter does leave the field while the hunt is still on, they must do so unarmed.
  5. No bird may be shot outside of the field boundaries unless it takes flight from within the field boundaries and is retrieved. Full points can be achieved.
  6. If a dog leaves the designated field it is the responsibility of the hunter to handle the dog back to within the boundaries w/ voice, whistle, or e-collar. No points will be awarded for anything that happens outside of the boundaries.
  7. The clock will remain continuous.
  8. Stocking will be done with 6 birds for the first run, 5 birds for the following runs in the two man division, The first run of the one man division will have 4 birds stocked, and 3 there after.
  9. No hunters may watch the field until their hunt is over. A containment area will be set for all hunters who still have runs.
  10. Spectators will be able to watch the set, but under no circumstance will the hunter be able to communicate with spectators.
  11. If a team flushes a bird while in the field on their way out it will be counted as either (1) Purposeful - Fine of 200 points and bird shall be replaced; (2) Accidental - It shall be considered bad luck
  12. Following all competitions, all dogs should be brought to lead as they leave the field.
  13. NON TOXIC shot is REQUIRED (i.e. steel, Hevi-shot, tungsten)
  14. If a hunter runs out of shells, they may NOT exchange shells, if team runs out the hunt will be considered over once they leave the field, the time will stop.
  15. The clock will stop once the final bird is retrieved.
  16. All competitors, stockers, and judges are required to wear blaze orange in the field.
  17. All firearms must be unload, with the actions open at all times outside of the boundaries of the field.
  18. If a judge rules an unsafe shot while hunting, the team will receive full points for that bird.
  19. Birds can not be shot on the ground, but a dog can trap a bird, full retrieve points will be awarded. If two or more traps occur during the same run, a shell will be deducted for each bird after the first one.
  20. A dog in heat can run, but will be moved to the final run(s).
  21. If a team does not flush 50% of the birds, the stockers and judge should make their best effort to do so.
  22. All hunters must have a 2008 SD small game license or a 2008 Shooting Preserve License.

Scoring:

  • 60 pts. Shot not taken
  • 200 pts. Bird Harvested
  • 30pts. Bird shot
  • 75 pts. Finds (flush or point)
  • 45 pts. Full retrieves
  • 20 pts. Partial or Normal retrieves
  • 1 pt. Every second remaining

Fines:

  • 200 pts. Purposeful flushes on the way out of the field.
  • 100 pts. Leaving or dropping parts of birds in the field.

Disqualifications:

  • Not obeying the judges' rules and warnings.
  • Shooting over their limit.
  • Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Running in the field.
  • Taking a bird that is NOT a rooster pheasant.
  • Taking UNSAFE shots toward gallery or judge.
